🌍 About the Seasons
The four astronomical seasons are determined by the Earth's position relative to the Sun. The vernal equinox (around March 20) marks the start of spring, the summer solstice (around June 21) begins summer, the autumnal equinox (around September 22) starts fall, and the winter solstice (around December 21) begins winter.
These dates apply to the Northern Hemisphere. In the Southern Hemisphere, the seasons are reversed: when it is summer in the north, it is winter in the south.
Meteorological seasons differ slightly: spring is March through May, summer is June through August, fall is September through November, and winter is December through February. Our tracker uses the astronomical definition based on equinoxes and solstices.
