How the Project Progress Tracker Works

Weighted Progress

Each task has an effort weight (Low to Critical). Overall progress uses the formula: Sum of completed weights divided by total weights. This means a Critical task counts 8 times more than a Low task, giving you an accurate project completion percentage.

Automatic Status Detection

Set a project deadline and the tracker automatically calculates your status. On Time means your progress matches the time elapsed. At Risk means you are falling behind schedule. Late means the deadline has passed.

Multiple Projects

Create and manage unlimited projects. All data is saved in your browser local storage, so your projects persist across visits. Nothing is uploaded to any server, keeping your work completely private.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a project progress tracker?

A project progress tracker monitors how much work has been completed compared to the overall plan. It helps teams understand whether they are on schedule, within budget, and aligned with project goals. Our free tracker calculates a weighted completion percentage based on task effort and status.

How is project completion percentage calculated?

We use weighted task tracking. Each task has an effort weight from 1 (Low) to 8 (Critical). Overall progress equals the sum of each completed task weight divided by the total of all task weights. In-progress tasks count as 50% complete. This gives you a far more accurate reading than simply counting finished tasks.

What does "At Risk" status mean?

At Risk means your actual progress is significantly behind the amount of time that has elapsed since the project started. For example, if 75% of your timeline has passed but only 30% of tasks are done, the tracker flags this as At Risk, prompting you to take action before the deadline is missed.

Can I track multiple projects at once?

Yes. Use the project selector at the top to create and switch between unlimited projects. All projects are saved in your browser local storage and persist between sessions, so you never lose your data.

Is this better than a project tracker Excel spreadsheet?

For quick, visual, browser-based tracking, yes. Our tool gives you an instant progress bar, automatic status detection, due date tracking, and a one-click progress report. No formulas to maintain, no file to share. For complex enterprise projects with many team members, a dedicated PM tool may suit you better.

Is my project data stored securely?

All data is stored exclusively in your browser local storage. Nothing is sent to any server. Your project data stays completely private on your device. Clearing your browser data will erase your projects.
